Tomato Plants

Note: Determinate tomato plants ripen a heavy crop over a few weeks. Indeterminate varieties bear fruit continuously until frost. You can stake or cage determinate type for easier control. Indeterminate should be staked or caged as they are hard to control. Remember that the days to harvest refers to the time from setting out transplants in the garden. 

Heirloom is generally considered to be a variety that has been passed down, through several generations of a family because of its valued characteristics. They usually have a shorter shelf life and less disease resistance than hybrids. 

Hybrid tomato plants combine two different varieties of tomato plant to produce a cultivated variety with beneficial traits from both its parents. They are selected for their higher-quality fruit, resistance to diseases and specific growth habits.

Big Daddy - (indeterminate) produces a mighty delicious harvest of ruby red round meaty fruits, 15 whopping ounces apiece over a long harvest season. Fusarium and verticillium resistant. Slicer, 78 days to maturity, Full Sun and spread 55 inches.

Brandy wine - (heirloom, indeterminate) is an old Amish heirloom tomato dating back to 1885, and was named after Brandywine Creek in Chester County, PA. Large, vigorous plants have potato leaf foliage and produce extra-large, lobed fruit that can weigh up to 2 lbs. Very flavorful but not acidic, Beefsteak, 85 days to maturity, Full Sun and spread 36 inches.

Celebrity - (hybrid, determinate) All America selections winner is classified as a hybrid tomato. Heavy yields of tasty tomatoes. All purpose variety with superb flavor, disease resistance and heavy yield. Crack - resistant fruits average 7 oz, Type container, 70 days to maturity, Full Sun and spread 24-36 inches.

First Lady - (indeterminate) This is a rugged variety with good disease resistance and crack resistant fruits. The vines produce clusters of delicious tomatoes early in the season and keep growing for non-stop production until frost. Height range 2-3 feet, Space range 2-3 feet, Full Sun, 66-70 days to maturity, and weigh 4-6 oz.

Sweet Million - Gold - (indeterminate) Early maturing plant produces heavy yields of 1⁄2 to 3⁄4 oz bright golden yellow cherry tomatoes. They are sweet, fruity, and delicious, long clusters, resist cracking and disease, 70 days to maturity, and grow as a 3 to 4 foot tall bush.

Jet Star - (indeterminate) Tomato produces big yields of large, clean fruit, free of cracks and scars, in the second early season. Globe shaped fruit with bright, attractive color inside and out with a pleasant flavor - low acid, sturdy, vines grow vigorously, producing heavily on stakes or on the ground and 72 days to maturity, yielding 7 to 9 oz. Spacing 24-36 and Full Sun

Jubilee - Orange - (indeterminate) The regular leaf plants of ‘Jubilee’ produce fruits that average about eight ounces each, are bright orange in color, have smooth skin and solid, sweet, meaty flesh that is not acidic. The plants, although indeterminate, tend to be short stemmed and stiff, 80 days to maturity, 60 to 72 inches tall and Full Sun.

Lizziebelle - (indeterminate) is a productive producer of baby plum type tomatoes that ripen to a deep orange color. These plants produce big yields of these tiny sweet beauties. The fruit measures approximately 1-1⁄2 inches long by 1⁄2 diameter and 60 days to maturity and can reach 6 feet.

Minibel - (determinate) These little tomato plants are perfect for growing in small containers. They produce lots of juicy, sweet tomatoes. The plants are stocky with very dark green leaves. The tiny ornamental plants reach only to about a foot in height and require no support. They mature in 65 days.

Primo Red - (determinate) Early maturing, 68 days, with large to extra-large fruit - can reach 8 to 12 oz. Smooth, deep globe shaped fruit are produced on compact plants. The tomatoes have a good deep red color, good firmness and good eating quality. An excellent vine rip for early plantings.

Red Currant - (indeterminate) Ever-so-tiny tomatoes with outsize flavor. Perfect for salads, these tiny 1⁄2” round, red fruits are notable for their strong, sweet-tart flavor and firm, juicy texture. High-yielding plants bear large trusses of clusters of fruit, maturing in 65-70 days, weighing one ounce and spread 18 inches.

Roma - (determinate) is a plum tomato, used both for canning and producing tomato paste because of its slender and firm nature . Roma tomatoes are also known as Italian tomatoes or Italian plum tomatoes.The roma grows 3 feet, spreads 18 inches, weighs 2 oz, maturity 70 days, and Full Sun.

Ruffle with Ridges - (indeterminate) large ruffled red, heirloom-like look and taste, rich flavor, high lycopene, wilt resistant, maturity 78 days,and weighs 1.6 ounces.

Rutgers - (heirloom - indeterminate) The legendary Jersey tomato, introduced in 1934, is a cross between J.T.D. ( an old New Jersey variety from the Campbell Soup Co.) and Marglobe. Its flavor, both for slicing and cooking, is still unequaled. Red fruits are slightly flattened. Tall vines, Fusarium resistance, slicer, weighing 4-6 ounces, 74 days to maturity, and spread 32-54 inches.

San Marzano - (heirloom, indeterminate) Plum compares to the Roma tomato but is thinner and more pointed. The flesh is much thicker with fewer seeds, and the taste is stronger, sweeter and less acidic. The San Marzano vines have a somewhat longer season than other paste tomato varieties. The San Marzano grows 5ft 11in, and weighs 3.9 oz.

Sun Gold - (indeterminate) One taste and you’ll know why this gold gem gets such high marks. The sweet-tart flavor is simply amazing. The beautiful golden-orange fruits are born in large clusters. The flavor develops early, so this little tomato is great for snacking a week before full maturity, when it becomes very sweet and delicious. 65 days to maturity, weighs 1 oz, spreads 18 inches and requires Full Sun.

Sun Sugar - (indeterminate) is an early maturing cherry tomato with a high sugar content that is a customer favorite for a reason! These beautiful cherry sized orange tomatoes will be the first tomato to harvest in early summer. Every 1⁄2 oz. fruit has 3 times more vitamin A found in most other red tomatoes. Not only does this variety contain more nutrients but it is sweeter than any and impossible to eat just one. The tomato is crack resistant, very vigorous, heavy yields and no need for staking, 62 days to maturity and requires 4 foot row spacing and 36 inches plant spacing.

Supersonic - (indeterminate) Produces heavy yields of large, meaty tomatoes of excellent quality. Fruit is deeply oblate in shape, smooth and quite crack free. Use ground or stake culture for the plant. Maturation 79 days, weighs 8 to 12 oz, grows 48 to 60 tall and requires 24-36 spacing.

Super Stake Bush - (indeterminate) Delicious, flavorful, meaty fruits have smooth shoulders, not as rough and ridgy as Beefsteak and the blossom end scars are smaller. Prolific, vigorous plants produce luscious red fruits averaging 17 oz, 80 days to maturity, and spread 36-48 inches.

Sweet 100’s - (indeterminate) A hybrid that produces long fruit-bearing stems holding 100 or more very sweet cherry tomatoes. Fruits weigh approximately 1 oz., and are 1 inch across. Plants need caging or staking, and produce fruit throughout the growing season, 70 days to maturity, spread 18 inches and require Full Sun.

Sweet (Red) Candy - (semi-indeterminate) A grape tomato that matures early and requires less pruning than other grape tomato varieties. High sugar content gives it great eating quality, and its healthy plant ensures high yields. 70 day to maturity.
